Lowcountry Scenery, Outstanding Layout Make Willbrook a South Strand Favorite

Willbrook is another South Strand gemIf Lowcountry charm and a memorable layout are a winning combination for you, Willbrook Plantation needs to be on the short list of courses you are considering for your next round.

The South Strand classic is in outstanding condition as the calendar turns to December, and the soaring live oak trees draped in Spanish moss are as inviting now as they were in the spring.

A 4.5-star course, according to Golf Digest, Willbrook plays through land that was once home to a thriving rice plantation and architect Dan Maples made great use of the property. The island green, par 3 sixth is the course’s signature hole, playing just 127 yards from the tips length isn’t what makes this beauty challenging. It’s all a matter of whether you have the nerve to hit the shot.

The par 5 15th, which measures a daunting 538 yards from the white tees, is Willbrook’s sternest test. The second shot requires a carry over wetlands to an elevated fairway; arrive there safely and an approach to a well-bunkered green awaits.

There are a lot of great golf courses along the South Strand, and Willbrook is certainly one of them.
